Northlands Vision 2020

Our Administration’s detailed analysis of Northlands Vision 2020 was released today. The full analysis along with the associated working papers can be found here. Generally, I use this blog to write about decisions that have already been made. As this is an important discussion, I thought it would be useful to share this information in advance. Once you have reviewed the information, please share your thoughts below. I am interested to hear what you like and do not like about the proposal. You are also welcome to speak at the Public Hearing on Wednesday August 31st from 1:30pm - 9:30pm. This Public Hearing is exclusively for Vision 2020 and it gives you the opportunity to share your views with City Council. You can register to speak online, by phone (780) 496-8178 or in person on the 31st. My initial thoughts based off what I have read is that I do not support forgiving Northlands' debt of $47.4 million. While there are elements of Vision 2020 that I am interested in, such as the six sheets of ice at the Coliseum, I am concerned about the financial viability of the urban festival site and Hall D renovations. I will spend the next week reviewing each of the working papers and collecting feedback from all of you. Please take some time this week to review some of the information and share your feedback. This decision will have a significant impact on the city. The more people that share their views, the better the decision will be.
